ESA calls for a global zero space debris policy

Space activities have now entered fully into the global economic perspective.
This can also be seen from the fact that on 19 January, ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher, accompanied by European astronaut Matthias Maurer, was invited to speak at the meeting organised by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

An annual gathering of leading political and economic figures to discuss the most pressing and important issues on the international geopolitical stage.

During their speech (below the video), the two ESA members spoke about various aspects of European space policy, including the wish that a global policy be established to reduce the number of space debris, committing satellite operators to remove spacecrafts when their operational life is over.
